About the Ethiopian Amharic Keyboard

This online Amharic keyboard allows you to type in Ethiopic script, also known as Fidel, directly in your web browser without requiring any special software, fonts, or keyboard drivers to be installed. The keyboard displays the complete Ethiopian Fidel character set, which includes all the consonants and vowel combinations used in the Ge'ez script that forms the basis of the Amharic writing system.

The Ethiopian Fidel is organized in a systematic grid pattern where each row represents a base consonant and each column represents one of the seven vowel sounds that can modify that consonant. These seven vowel forms, known as ልዮሃስ in Amharic, are ä, u, i, a, e, ə, and o. When you combine a base consonant with each of these vowels, you get up to seven different character forms for each consonant.
