Ethiopian universities, including Addis Ababa University, Jimma University, Bahir Dar University, and other higher education institutions, use a 4.0-point grading scale to evaluate student academic performance. This grading system uses letter grades ranging from A, which represents excellent performance and carries 4.0 grade points, through to F, which represents failure and carries 0.0 grade points.

Those with a GPA between 3.50 and 3.74 receive Second Class Upper Division, while students in the 3.00 to 3.49 range receive Second Class Lower Division. A Pass classification requires a GPA of at least 2.00, while anything below 2.00 represents a Fail.
